Filled with joy

I am blessed beyond measure of God's gifts in my life! We are thankful for our friends and family and wanted to wish all of you a Merry Christmas. I hope no one loses sight of what this holiday is all about!!!

not expecting this..

For the past couple of days, Emily has had a couple of wheezing episodes. We've been wondering if she had asthma for a while. We've always treated it at home with breathing treatments. Last night she came and woke me up and couldn't catch her breath, couldn't speak, and was holding her chest. Scared me to death. We got up and did a breathing treatment and waa-la problem solved.

So we went to see Dr. Marsh this morning. My goal was to get a rescue inhaler to keep at school in case she had an outbreak. But he recommended daily maintenance steroids. Their side effects aren't as bad as the rescue treatments, but I didn't expect that at all.

If any of you guys have dealt with this I would love to hear your stories. Now that I am home, I have thought up some more questions that I need to call Dr. Marsh about. Any thing you guys have to contribute to my saneness on this issue is greatly appreciated

A spoiled kid

This morning I was listening to more of the big auto companies wanting money - a bailout. I laughed out loud at Dave Ramsey's response. He recommends telling them, along with all the other companies wanting bailouts, NO! He compared it to a kid on the cereal isle throwing a fit, and getting his/her way. What will they do the next time they miss-manage their finances and give loans to peeps who can't pay it back. Which he hit the nail on the head!
Here is my solution......

Give every TAX PAYER, instead of the big corporations, a cut of money, based on what they make, dependants and so on. I know if I got that kind of money, I would pay off my mortgage, remodel areas of the house I want, pay off my van and probably spend some doing something fun with my family, since its been a while since we've got to go on a real vacation. If every taxpayer did the exact same thing, all the banks would be back on track because people would pay off debt.

I'm just saying......

2nd six weeks of school

Emily got her first real report card yesterday. The first six weeks was ended with teacher conferences to discuss how well she did. I was a little concerned because she was so shy with her teacher, she didn't do well when she was tested one on one. So we talked about it, and I guess something sunk in. She got an E on for "exceeds expectations". I can't even express how proud of her I am. She says she likes school except it is so long, and they have so much to do in a day, but obviously she is attaining something.

We've had a bout with a major bully. He sat right next to Emily and was very rough, took things away and threatened to cut her with scissors, and kick her a@# and then come to our house and kick mine. A very trying time, what is the right words to say when you want to go and find his parents and do something to them that he has threatened to your 6 year old? And the day I decided to discuss it with her teacher, she was moved to a different table. A prayer answered!! I still called and talked to her teacher, who was unaware of all of his threats. I know Emily will have to get a thick skin because this is just the first of many, but how can kids be so mean at such a young age.

I just am beaming over my daughter and had to get it out. She is growing up so fast and learning so many things at school, good and bad. I will blink my eye and she will be a senior. I am just trying to relish in this moment with her!

I am trying to see the good in him. Hopefully he "will try to win us over",speaking of the americans who didn't vote for him. Wanting to pass partial abortion, gay marriages, raise taxes!! Yeah, he is going to be great change!! Rockin! All we can do now is pray for our leadership!

Halloween Party

Ok - so I had a fallen out with my camera. We broke up for a bit, but we are back together, stronger then ever! So here are some of the happenings that took place at the Kapka house over the month of October. We celebrated Emily's 6th birthday - fun filled day with a field trip to Green Meadows Farm then her party on Saturday. The next week, Blaine went with my class to Main Stay Farm. And last we are going to start another tradition of having a Halloween party with our neighbors, The Brocks. We had too much fun not to do it again next year! We had games for the kids, karaoke for everyone, and lots of good conversations. Shyann won the child costume contest. Pretty hard to beat out a 2 year old dressed as a skunk, and Dog won the adult. Fall Field Trips

oh my gosh!!! Is this how it is once your children enter school????? I am not even going all out for PTA president or anything and I feel like I am drowning!!! This has been my week(maybe I am just spoiled?)

Monday --- take father in law to Dallas Love, shop for Emily's party since I have mother in law for help. Take advantage of that for shizzle
Tuesday -- RETURN to dentist to have crowns put back on, after spending over $2000 at the first of the year for the same crap!... because they came off on Friday, and told one of my fillings HE did has to have a root canal and crown.... $800.... enough said... just taking antibiotics now, to try to keep swelling down until Christmas is over. Blessing in disguise... great way to loose a little extra weight
Weds--- KDO
Thurs--- Pick up father in law from Dallas Love, run errands with the in laws, they are moving across the street.
Fri --- room mom responsibilities for Emily's field trip, her birthday, more family coming in
Sat --- 12 six year old girls at the house for birthday party.

BIG SIGH... just getting it all out helps peeps!!!! Love to you all... count down until Halloween Party!

I have officially arrived at Oldville

I am officially old! Here I am on my blog, fuming about this bailout. Issues in the government and the economy finally rocks my core. I wondered when this day would come. I would hear my parents talking politics and stuff and just think "old codgers". Well here I am.
I have issues with this bailout. I am having a hard enough time at the gas pump and groceries for my own family to want to bail out any big business that goofed. Who bails out small business on Main street USA that begin to struggle? No one - that is right, they close their doors! Who is going to pay off my debt? Me myself and Jamie!
If Americans wouldn't live beyond their means, if Clinton(and congress at that time) wouldn't have passed mortgage securities, which in turn would have eliminated the need for 100% financing, we wouldn't be in this mess!
More importantly if the people in Washington had any kind of morals, and trusted God, or even seeked Him out on issues first, our nation wouldn't be talking about Bailout! Thank God, He is the ultimate one in control and my duty as a Christian is to pray for our leadership, which I have to admit I have slacked. At this point, that is all I can do! I pray there is one soul in authority that He can use for His glory!!!
Ok - I'll get off my soap box now.

All I want for Christmas......

Emily lost another tooth yesterday. I don't know how she eats anything! She was home sick but still managed to find enough energy to wrestle with Blaine who kicked out her loose front tooth! She just brought it to me and said look..... I was relieved. She had been wanting to pull it for days, but I am the mom who lets it fall out on its own pretty much.... cant do it! Sicko
So she was stoked to find what the tooth fairy left her. Glitter and all!! She looks so cute with out her 2 front teeth. I know this is just the beginning of that awkward stage that little girls have to endure about 2 years longer then the awkward stage of little boys. When the permanent teeth come in and are way too big for their little mouths, but for now she looks too precious for words!

The early bird gets the worm....

Every year my kids beg for store bought costumes for Halloween. And after seeing the price of them - cheap-o mom says no! But I gave in this year, and yes, I am not a procrastinator, so we bought them today! More detailed pictures to come on Halloween, but I think they made a good choice. Blaine wanted to be a pirate, even after seeing the Batman. Surprising, but I'll go with it. Emily chose Barbie from the new Barbie princess movie. No surprises there!

Good Bye Summer

Went camping one last time before the weather starts to turn cooler. Emily and Blaine love the "beach". Lake Mineral Wells has really nice camping spots. It is really just a nice place. 20 minutes from home, and it is like you are in a different area totally. My kids love to camp and play in the sand and the water. My goal for next summer is a real beach vacation. But for now, us poor folk, will just take Mineral Wells!!!

How we survived Hurricane Ike

So we were restricted to indoor activity Saturday due to Hurricane Ike. We heeded the warnings from all the weather stations and bunkered down!! I went to Walmart Friday evening for milk, without thinkink, and that place was a mad house!!! Everyone "stocking" up on supplies for the great storm! Give me a break! Yes we got rain, and yes we got wind. Nothing like how the wind blows in the panhandle 4 days out of the 7 in a week!!! But we survived for all of those who worried about us! =) And here is what it looked like at the Kapka Abode. Thanks to the Hannah Montana 3-D movie we managed just fine!

Blogger Virgin

ok --- so I think I finally deleted all the "extra" blog pages that I created while trying to set my blog up --- but now I need some tutoring! How do you guys add all the blog pages you visit? Did yall take a class on this or am I just dense? I can't believe I am spending this Sunday afternoon trying to figure this out!

When rednecks gather

It was that time of year again. When then neighbors cringe at the sound of rv's roaring down our small quiet road. The purpose Jamie wanted land fullfilled every Labor Day weekend. All our family and friends gather and we try to have a decent time. We play washers, horseshoes, have a chili cookoff, and auction items we all bring... made or bought. I think a good time was had by all, even if we did win the chili cookoff (again!), yes undefeated.... along with the horseshoe tournement. I guess we have an advantage on that one!!! We had lots of fun and look forward to doing it all again next year!

So today was the day. The day I have dreaded since last summer. Count Down. How will Emily take to going to school. How will she do? Will Blaine miss her? How will I do? What if some bully is mean to her? So we got up extra early this morning, after not much sleep last night from me, and got ready. Family affair taking her to school. Bye mom.... that was it! I was fine until little brother looked at me as we were leaving and said " I don't want to leave sissy here." As my snot came pouring, I said neither did I! Couldn't hardly wait until 3:15 for pickup. Out she came. A glorious smile on her face. She loved it. Can't wait to go back tomorrow. She already has picked out what she wants to wear. I think she is viewing this more as a fashion show. A girl after my own heart. I was proud beyond words of her .
